Tristian turns personal challenges into opportunity to help young people

Tristian Griffiths has set up Youth Empowerment Mentoring, a business that nurtures more confident, resilient and motivated young people. Through a combination of personal experience and educational background, he has created a program that helps youth achieve their potential.

"I took the skills I had learned from my educational background and personal experiences," Tristian explains. I've had cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychiatric support and many different interventions, and I'm proud to say that these have helped me create Youth Empowerment Mentoring."

Essential support to start a business

The Enterprise Hub's support was instrumental in setting up Youth Empowerment Mentoring.

"As soon as I met Aled, my business adviser, I knew straight away that the partnership would be a success, and the process from start to finish was very enjoyable too." Tristian said.

Tristian admits he wouldn't have been in a position to start the business without the grant aid.

"I used the money on key things – accounting, workwear, branding etc" he explains. "But on top of that the guidance and support was invaluable to me at the time, and the ability to talk to someone on a regular basis to make sure I was on the right track."

In addition, Tristian was encouraged to join the Chamber of Commerce, something that has proven very beneficial to the business.

Innovative programmes for young people

Youth Empowerment Mentoring already supports young people through a variety of projects and collaborations.

"I can be working one-on-one, online or in schools, offering workshops. I have developed an empowerment curriculum that is delivered over twelve weeks," says Tristian.

He also works with local businesses and charities, including Snowdonia Mountaineering, where he and Callum Tipton run the Snowdon Resilience Challenge. "We take young people up Snowdon and run walking workshops in different locations up the mountain."

Tristian also works with TNS football club in Oswestry, providing a wellbeing package throughout the season.

"I offer workshops monthly to the club, and meet academy players one-on-one to work on their mindset and help them overcome any challenges they face."
