Young mother from Anglesey becomes her own boss

Alice Gregory, a young mother from Anglesey, has successfully set up an innovative marketing agency with the help of the Enterprise Hub.  Wonderland Marketing specializes in website design, email marketing, strategic planning and social media management.

"I wanted to be my own boss," Alice said. "I wanted to work with companies that I was really passionate about.  I've always worked away from home because of the lack of marketing jobs in this area.  I've loved working in partnership with local companies with my start-up business."

Alice feels strongly that having a network of local businesses makes a big difference.

Essential support to start a business

When Alice decided to launch Wonderland Marketing, the Enterprise Hub's support became key in the process.

"Aled was my contact there, and he was great," she explains. "I needed to submit my application fairly quickly as the deadline was just around the corner, but he helped me make sure everything was in place to make a successful application."  Alice used the grant to invest in essential equipment for her business – a laptop to help her work from anywhere, and a phone that allows her to create content as part of her service.

In addition to tools, Alice received support on other areas, such as finance and content strategy.  "I worked with a social media manager to create my social media to get awareness of my new brand."

Balancing business and family life

While she is passionate about growing Wonderland Marketing, Alice also balances family life with her new business.

"I've just had a baby too, and trying to balance being a new mum and starting a business is obviously quite difficult," she said. "But I love it and I think having people around you supporting you in the initial stages is really important. I'm thrilled."

Exciting projects in the pipeline

Wonderland Marketing has already attracted exciting clients and Alice is looking forward to a busy year of new projects.

"I'm working with some really cool clients and there are a lot of good projects going on, for example there seem to be a great deal of people wanting new websites at the moment," she said.
