Anglesey-based business hopes to transform Welsh town centres and cities
An Anglesey native is busy trying to transform town and city centres across Wales. Since launching Making Places Work in May last year, founder and director Medi Parry-Williams has partnered with the public and private sectors to lead on a number of projects offering bespoke solutions to transform town and city centres.
Medi, who is originally from Anglesey, has been involved with a number of venues across Wales, including Bangor, Anglesey and Flintshire advising on marketing, PR and communications strategies. More recently, Medi has been appointed by SMART Towns Cymru to support high street businesses across Wales and agencies that support them on how to use data to make more informed decisions.
"Someone suggested that I talk to the Enterprise Hub about the opportunities for start-ups, and I quickly got in touch with the Hub," says Medi. They went through every process with me in terms of the support that was available. I've found everything to be extremely useful and efficient through every step."
Medi used the funding she received towards developing her brand and building it, and also to launch a website for her business. "That enabled me to have a digital platform to promote, and engage with my new customers and customers, and share testimonials, case studies and the services I offer in both Welsh and English.
"My vision is to work in Wales, support Welsh businesses and work with the Welsh community. Over the next few months, I now intend to have a Welsh language version of my website through the additional grant, to communicate effectively with my customers and organisations in Wales, and also to demonstrate my commitment to the Welsh language.
"By working with and having support from the Enterprise Hub, they suggested that I speak to SMART Towns and I absolutely admire what SMART Towns Wales is trying to achieve, and the support it gives to Wales, businesses in Wales, town centres in Wales – in terms of creating SMART Towns and then using that data to grow and become more efficient in their way of doing things. I'm very excited about working with SMART Towns Cymru and supporting and advising based on my experience, and creating positive change in Wales. And that's one of the key objectives in terms of my business and why I want to work in Wales, with Wales, and in the Welsh language – to create that change."
