Virtual reality and immersive technology flourishing on Anglesey  

An expert in new technology and virtual reality has seen her business thrive thanks to the support of Hwb Menter. 

Klaire Tanner is an XR Creative Director, working freelance specialising in virtual reality, augmented reality and immersive technology. 

"I launched the business in January and the first thing I did when I started looking at freelancing was to contact Aled from Menter Môn." 

This support included obtaining finance, something that has been essential in the development of the business. 

"Thanks to that, I got a very powerful laptop – which is my bread and butter, more or less! It's been going really well. It's been great," said Klaire. 

Growing an innovative business in Anglesey 

The first year has been a huge success for Klaire, with a new client every month since she started freelancing. 

"I've been quite fortunate in the sense that I've found companies to work for that need this set of skills in North Wales," she said. 

"I've worked on a lot of projects over the last year. I've been doing virtual reality in the games sector and bringing that into the TV sector as well. And my AI workshop was designed to help companies use AI in practice as part of their business." 

A great place to share ideas 

Klaire works at the M-Sparc space in Gaerwen, and even the work location has played a key role in her success, giving her the perfect environment to grow the business. 

"M-Sparc has been an amazing place to come and work from," she explains. "What's great is that I have a client at M-Sparc now as well. They give me access to the co-working space but most of the time I prefer to work from the café." 

Even choosing where to sit has brought new opportunities for Klaire. 

"If I'm sitting there working on something that looks cool, people tend to come over and ask 'www, what's that?' she said. " I literally make connections with clients while sitting in the café, especially if I'm sitting there with virtual reality headsets on too – people come over to talk to me." 

A bright future for immersive technology 

The first year has been a great success for Klaire, and the support she has received has been invaluable. 

"It's made a huge difference in my life," she said. "It's been a huge benefit for me."
